Isaiah 61:3
...and clothes of praise to replace their spirit of sadness.
Today did not start off as well as I had hoped. Work is very busy as the Christmas season begins and this week is particularly busy, working 8 hours every day of the week until Sunday- my almost day off work! Anyway, as you can imagine, even the thought of this busy week is enough to get you depressed or miserable! But I've decided to stay positive and only see the good stuff in every day at work :) And its worked so far! The day has gone quite fast and then I can come home and relax :)
But as I've said, today something disrupted my positive mood. It turns out that I cant have the time off at work that I wanted to see my family over Christmas, and while trying my best to make it happen I turn up 5 mins late for work which does not make my manager very happy! Even though its not a big deal, starting work with some stern words from your boss isn't the best way to start your day! So all this bad news started eating away at my positive mood and pretty soon Im getting quite miserable and upset, dreading the next 7 hours of work!
I think I can imagine what you might be thinking now.. QUIT COMPLAINING! So don't worry, this is not just a moany post to let the world know how miserable I am! The real point is how I overcame this and enjoyed the rest of my day! :)
While I was sorting through a box of stock to put out on the shop floor, I just started singing to myself. I had a song in my head and it had to come out! Im not one to hold it in :P
So anyway, I start to sing some Elevation Worship songs and as I start singing I feel my heavy spirit lighten, and my negative feelings give way to more positive feelings and my sadness starts to melt away as I decide that there is no point being miserable all day! This will only make my day draaag on and will make me even more miserable! So after a couple of songs I was back to my normal self, enjoying as much as I could enjoy while tidying up after messy customers!
This brought me to think about the verse in Isaiah 61, which talk about wearing a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness! The easiest way to get rid of a heavy spirit is to praise God! and thats what I did :)
I hope this helps :)
This is so true Lorah! It really works and it is when we least feel like praising God that we really should. He is worthy of our praise no matter how we are feeling, isn't He?
ReplyDeleteGood for you for putting this great spiritual truth into action.
Love you

That's really nice. It's really hard to just become happy so quickly but its amazing what faith can do :)

Couldn't agree with you more Lorah, this is something that works for me every time and is one of my very favourite verses, it can be hard to praise God when everything's falling apart around you but it really does work! Great post x
