Pursuit of Happiness Design Process

As promised on Friday, here is the shoot for Pursuit of Happiness, the new series starting Sunday at  D7 Church. To make it a little more interesting I thought I would share the process with you! Let me know what you think...

Step 1. Gather information/inspiration!

Series Title: Pursuit of Happiness
Event Information; Current Series, 'How to be happy'.
What is the image for: Church Website (610x343px) , Big Screen(1920x1080px), Podcast Thumbnail(220x124px).
So that was all the information I was given, next step for me was to gather some inspiration! All that I did was search some key words in Google to see what images popped up! Or if I had a specific idea, search for similar images. So this is what I gathered (and put together with the help of shapecollage.com).
I then took these images and ideas to Eric to see what he liked to decide on a final idea.
He decided he liked the suitcase idea, and would like something where a person was walking with a suitcase.. So on to step two!

Step 2. Photo Shoot!
I picked a location near to home which has lovely trees and grasses and lots of paths (for some one to walk along). After some walking, we came to a lovely big tree that was right next to the path and seemed to make a door way into the next field. It seemed obvious that this was the spot to take the picture! The shoot was so simple! All I asked the model to do was keep walking down the path while I follow and take pictures! It took literally 5 mins to take enough pictures for me to play around with. Here are some of the pictures we got...

Step 3. Editing!
The first thing I did was crop the photo so that it only had the important elements (person, tree and path) and so that it fit the dimensions I was given. Then enhanced the colours.  Which left me with this...

Then I added a texture which is just an image I downloaded,  put on top of the image and reduced the opacity. This left me with a nice textured image..

Then I add text! The curly font is Vtks Relaxing Blaze, which I downloaded from www.1001freefonts.com

So it is quite a simple process, hope you enjoyed hearing about it! I will leave you with the final image created for D7 Church

  3. I like post like this which not only give inspiration but definite help to others. FYI You can make really good collages like the one above with a lot of customization with Google Picasa with no watermark.
