Fast Update

Well its coming up to the end of the first week of my fast. It has been... interesting I guess!
I didn't quite get into things properly the first couple of days, I ate some things I shouldn't then decided to start again the next day! Wednesday was going well until I took my little sister out and we had toffee popcorn! Oh dear.. Since then I would say I have done petty well, I have even found vegan ice cream that I can eat!! :D

...

Does anything sound wrong to you there??

Well I have noticed that I am putting so much thought and effort into food! I thought I fast was about getting closer to God! not food!! Since I have started fasting I think I have prayed 3 times, and read my bible once.. for 10 mins! So from my experience this week, from next week I am gonna stop fussing about what I eat.. Fruit, Veg, bread and water is all I will eat and I will seriously put all my thoughts and effort into seeking God!

Another little thought; I have not been listening to any music this week because I know that music does affect your spirit, so I have only been listening to worship music. Im also thinking maybe I should think about what I watch on T.V ??

How has your first week been? Do you have any thoughts or comments? What else can you cut out of your life so that you can be closer to God?

  1. Great insight Lorah. It's so easy to concentrate on food while we fast and forget that the whole point is to "decrease so that he can increase" (John 3:30).

  2. That is a really good observation Lorah, I have found that I haven't been that phased by food but I also haven't had any good quality time with God either. Like you, I am going to make sure I am seeking Him more fervently from this point forward. Also, I have limited my time on the computer to free up more time to spend with God, this has been awesome and I think I will keep this up even when the fast has ended :)

Next week is going to be great, I think we are all settling into the fast and starting to understand what it is all about. Great post, keep sharing your thoughts.

  3. Hey guys, :)
I've been fasting this week (not very successfully) but i do feel that even though i have not been doing great in my fast the moments when you are sat in quite contemplation is moment that i have found my-self very close to God.
Like lorah i have found my-self listening to vast amounts more of worship music and saying is the other music i listen to good for my sprit, and i don't think all of it is.
I do feel then my fast has definatly been at great start to the year and bringing be closer to my friends and God.
    Thanks for listening :)

  4. I noticed the bit about you saying that you hadn't listened to much music over the last week, only praise and worship. That sounds good but I all I would say there - and I know it sounds typical but listening to rock music or in your case Christian rock music such as Third day, Switchfoot, P.O.D and Hannah Montana I think would really help as it has been proven that rock music can give you a drive and a subliminal boost of determination.
The same way that listening to Mozart when you study can help you to focus.

    So yeah,hope that helps.

All the best with it :)

  5. I found this fast really challenging as I either forget I'm fasting of just crave something ... find it ... and eat it.
I think that fasting 'back in the day' must have been almost easier as there weren't any temptations like chocolate and people didnt really have such busy lifestyles ... I'm not complaining, just observing :)
I dunno ... I hope I can do better next week, I feel a bit 'unholy' darn it! chocolate could be a sin lol
    Peace! :)
