Learning through Making Mistakes

As you all probably already know through my previous posts, I am a huge supporter of King's Daughters and everything that they do! :) I have a very interesting membership as I attend as the official photographer as well as a group member, so I am always jumping between the two at events, enjoying the great networking experience as a business owner as well as documenting the other ladies' great networking experiences through my creative photography.  I love that I can support King's Daughters in this way and would not want it any other way! So last week, as usual I attended the Cheltenham meeting. Angela (Founder and Director of King's Daughters) talked to us about 'Turning our Failures into Profit' - a very interested subject! After her very inspiring talk, we had to complete an exercise - we had to identify a past failure or mistake and write how we have got to where we are because of it. Although I'm sure I have made many mistakes in business, I couldn't seem to find something to write about. I don't think I have made any major mistakes! Well you can be surprised what can happen in a week...

This week has been one of the toughest weeks for me in business! A huge mistake has revealed itself and tried to swallow me whole! I say a huge mistake, it was rather a small mistake with huge consequences. You see I am a very trusting person, I like to help people and assume that if I do, people will appreciate it. Don't you think? Well I have now learnt the hard way that that is sometimes not the case! I don't want to reveal too much of the situation as it is still going on as I write this post, but thought I would share a little bit of what has helped me though it so far, as well as some practical little business tips :) Here it goes..

These are the two mistakes I have made in business this week. I did a job for a friend who turned sour. There were no contracts involved and no clear communication as to what was expected from either party and now nasty things have been said and false accusations have been thrown my way. What makes it worse is that I am still awaiting my payment - if it ever comes! I have been taken advantage of and falsely accused and there is nothing I can do about it, so please do learn form my mistakes!

These were the best 3 decisions I have made this week :)
All I have to do now, is learn from the mistakes I have made, forgive the ones who have wronged me, and then move forward with my life :)

This is me, moving forward! Expect to see great things happening in Lorah Kelly Creative Photography!
